For an agricultural technician or agronomist, a fertilisation plan is a scientific project: the required nutrient units are calculated, application timings are selected, and crop requirements are analysed. However, there is one weak link that can undermine the entire strategy: translating theoretical data into actual mechanical settings.
The reality is clear: most spreading errors are not caused by the machine itself, but by incorrect settings. Even an excellent machine, when adjusted inaccurately, will produce uneven distribution, leading to over-application (with the risk of crop lodging and nitrate leaching) or under-application (resulting in reduced yields and weaker crop growth).
The Eurospand APP was developed to bridge this gap, translating agronomic recommendations into reliable operating parameters. Its key strategic advantage is that it also works offline, ensuring precision even in the most remote fields.
The problem: the physical variability of fertilisers
Why is there no universal setting? The answer lies in physics. Every fertiliser, even within the same category, has unique characteristics that influence its spreading trajectory:
- Granule size: granule dimensions determine air resistance and spreading distance.
- Specific weight: a lightweight granule, such as urea, behaves differently from a heavier compound fertiliser granule.
- Hygroscopicity and flowability: ambient humidity can alter the product’s friction characteristics, slowing its flow towards the spreading discs.
- Dust content: fine particles do not follow the same trajectory as granules. They fall almost vertically, creating concentrated deposits beneath the machine.
Ignoring these variables and adjusting the machine from memory means accepting not only an incorrect application rate in kg/ha, but also uneven transverse distribution. For an agronomist, this results in a patchy fertilisation pattern that can distort any post-harvest assessment.
Tutorial: how to use the Eurospand APP for accurate settings
The application has been designed as an intuitive bridge between the technician and the operator. Here are the key steps to obtain the correct spreading parameters.
Selecting the machine and spreading system
The first step is to identify the exact model, such as Delta Fruit or Jolly. Each Eurospand machine has different spreading geometries and feeding characteristics. The APP immediately loads the spreading charts calculated for the selected machine.
Product database and fertiliser analysis
Do not select a generic product. The APP contains an extensive database of commercial fertilisers. If the product being used is not listed, the application allows you to enter its physical characteristics, including product type and granule size, to identify the closest equivalent and determine the most suitable settings. This is where the technician can make a real difference by checking that the information on the fertiliser bag or bulk bag matches the digital data.
Setting operating parameters: working width and speed
Once the target application rate (kg/ha) has been entered, the APP provides a numerical shutter-opening setting. The resulting report can be saved or sent by WhatsApp or email from the technician to the tractor operator. This creates an operational record, which is essential for modern farm management records.
The advantage of offline operation
In agriculture, connectivity is often the last thing you can rely on. The Eurospand application is designed to offer full functionality without an internet connection.
Why is this a major advantage for technicians?
- On-field access: data can be checked directly at the field edge, where mobile coverage is often poor.
- Fast response: there is no waiting for data to load from external servers.
- Reliability for agricultural contractors: operators working in hilly or remote areas cannot afford interruptions to their workflow.
Beyond software: the mechanical technology behind accurate settings
The APP provides the data, but Eurospand technology helps turn those figures into real-world results. Agronomists should understand three key levels of mechanical precision.
Metering: variable-flow geometry
Eurospand stainless-steel dosing shutters feature variable-geometry openings. This allows precise handling of both very small quantities, typical of seeds and specialist products, and large application rates of organic fertilisers, while maintaining a linear discharge curve.
Distribution: optimised release point
As the application rate increases, the weight of the fertiliser on the disc can affect its spreading trajectory. The Eurospand system compensates for this effect by optimising the point at which the fertiliser reaches the spreading disc. The APP takes this dynamic into account in its calculations.
Vibro System: ensuring consistency
No APP can predict a blockage or granule breakage caused by a rotating agitator. This is where the Vibro System comes in. Thanks to its vibrating hopper floor, the fertiliser flows towards the outlets without excessive mechanical stress or overheating. This helps ensure that the actual granules spread in the field retain the characteristics assumed by the APP’s calculations. Without vibration, changes in the pressure exerted by the fertiliser (P1 versus P2) could alter the flow, undermining the effectiveness of software-based settings.
The agronomist’s role: reducing the coefficient of variation
An experienced technician knows that the APP is the starting point, not the finishing line. To reduce the coefficient of variation (CV) below the critical 10% threshold, it is necessary to:
- Use the APP’s data to set up the machine.
- Ensure that the stainless-steel grids are clean and suitable for the product, using larger-aperture grids for pellets where appropriate.
- Check that forward speed remains constant, especially when starting again after a stop.
Digital precision in the service of agriculture
In the era of Agriculture 4.0, precision should simplify work rather than complicate it. The Eurospand APP turns a complex procedure, prone to human error, into a guided process based on objective data and tested spreading algorithms.
For the agronomist, this means greater confidence that the fertilisation plan will be implemented accurately. For the operator, it means less stress and greater control over the work. The principle is clear: spreading quality starts on a smartphone and becomes reality through outstanding mechanical engineering.
Do not leave your crop production to chance or rely solely on the operator’s judgement. Download the Eurospand APP, configure your machine and optimise every kilogram of fertiliser.
